We are developing a new tech plan and I am looking for inspiration regarding a overarching vision/mission statement. I want to get beyond the "use technology to enhance education" type and find something that captures the spirit of "Native" users and "Web 2.0". Any thoughts?
Have you looked at NETS for Students? It's a provides a great "guide" for learning in the 21st Century. I found it a great place to start when writing our vision.
Yes. We actually rewrote the NETS standards, simplifying and removing the redundancies. I am looking for a more visionary, overarching statement that reflects a more 21st century sensibility about the nature of Web 2.0 and "Native" users.
My department is Educational Technology and we have a separate Technology and Information Services department. However, here is our current 'vision' statement:
"We strive to incorporate technology into classroom instruction to enhance the educational process. We grasp the transformational nature of technology and seek to provide the necessary tools for quality work for all adults and students. Inherent in this process is the critical component of becoming wise and effective users of technology who act appropriately and are prepared to be intelligent participants in the technology-rich global community."
We address your question a little in the term 'participants', however we may revisit it some day soon to see if we need further revisions. Great topic!
Last, I agree with Page -- the refreshed student NETS are very helpful. The refreshed Teacher standards come out at NECC next week!
